Having a birthday in January has never been one of my favorite things. For one thing, it is COLD and cold does not equal happy fun times in my book. Quite a few of my friends had their birthdays and awesome birthday parties in the summertime and would go to the beach, have pool parties and one birthday I recall had a Slip-n-Slide. I would imagine these things in the heart of winter and they would turn in to a slip-n-slush or ice skating on a pool......it doesn't quite make sense. I have never been into skiing or snowboarding because the height of the ski lifts is terrifying and its, well, cold!
This is one of life's annoyances but since I am more of a "the glass is half full" kind of girl, I changed the view of my Birthday situation. I said, "when life gives you cold snow, make snow cones". Snow cones are cold but they are good :-)
Finding a list of things I liked about January wasn't very easy, at first anyway. There is New Years Day of course where we have the chance to start fresh and I have always been a fan of new beginnings and a clean slate. I try to use this day for refreshing my outlook on life rather than nursing a hangover...
Having a birthday close to Christmas can be a good thing I found out because rather than 2 smaller presents I could request one big present that I would not have gotten if my birthday wasn't in January. This month kept looking better and better!
The NFL playoffs are in January and I do love that game and the Superbowl landed on my birthday one year. Having a Superbowl and birthday party all wrapped up into one with a red shiny bow made for an amazing day! The Packers didn't win but who cares....the Superbowl, cake and presents! Oh my!
Now as I approach the big 40 I realize that every birthday is a good birthday no matter what month it lands in. The key is to keep having them! When things seem slushy just remember to do this....make snow cones :-)
